Casemiro compared Michael Carrick’s coaching style to that of Carlo Ancelotti.

Casemiro, the Brazilian player who is set to leave Manchester United this summer, has urged the club’s management to appoint Michael Carrick as the permanent head coach.
He said this in an interview with the media on 12 May 2026, stating that Carrick has done more than enough to earn the job, even though he is not as widely recognized as some of the bigger coaching names.
Casemiro said:
“He deserves to stay here. The team is playing very well under Carrick at the moment. We are winning games, and the team is improving every day. For me, he deserves it because the team is in a good place and we have achieved important victories.”
He also compared Carrick’s way of managing players to that of Carlo Ancelotti, saying Carrick understands what players need to hear, knows the team well, and fully deserves the role.
Michael Carrick took charge on an interim basis after Ruben Amorim was dismissed. Since then, he has won 12 of his 17 matches, lost only two, and guided United to qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League.
United’s management says a final decision will be made after the season ends. Club owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe wants to settle on a manager quickly so preparations for next season can begin.
Although Carrick is performing well, the club is still considering other options such as Luis Enrique, Julian Nagelsmann, and Andoni Iraola.
Casemiro also confirmed that he will leave Manchester United this summer, but made it clear that his final request is for Carrick to be given the job permanently.
