From Intare Academy to Egypt: Niyigena Clement Ready for a New Chapter,From Muhanga to Egypt: Niyigena Clement Set for the Biggest Move of His Career

Rwanda international defender Clement Niyigena is on the verge of completing a major transfer to Egyptian Premier League side Ceramica Cleopatra FC after reportedly reaching an agreement with the club and undergoing medical examinations in Egypt.

Born in Muhanga District, Niyigena has become one of Rwanda’s most successful defenders over the last few years. His football journey started at Intare FC Academy before moving to Marine FC, where his performances attracted the attention of Rayon Sports FC. After impressing during his time at Rayon Sports, he secured a move to APR FC, where he established himself as one of the country’s top defenders

Niyigena also captained Rwanda’s Under-20 national team and later earned promotion to the senior national team, Rwanda National Football Team. His leadership qualities, composure, aerial dominance and consistency have made him a key figure for both club and country

Following the expiration of his contract with APR FC, negotiations over a renewal reportedly failed to produce an agreement. As a result, the defender began exploring opportunities abroad, with Egypt emerging as his preferred destination. Sources indicate that he remained in Cairo after Rwanda’s recent national team camp to finalize discussions regarding his future
Ceramica Cleopatra, who finished among the top clubs in the Egyptian Premier League last season, see Niyigena as a valuable addition to strengthen their defense ahead of the new campaign. The move would represent one of the biggest transfers involving a Rwandan defender in recent years.
Meanwhile, reports from several Rwandan sports journalists suggest that African champions Pyramids FC have also shown interest in the defender and opened discussions over a possible deal. While Ceramica Cleopatra currently appear to be leading the race, the situation remains fluid until an official contract is signed. No formal announcement has yet been made by either club.
If the transfer is completed, Niyigena will join the growing list of Rwandan players testing themselves in highly competitive foreign leagues and will take another significant step in a career that has risen from Muhanga’s football fields to the international stage. His departure would also leave APR FC searching for a replacement for one of the pillars of their defense.
