Rayon Sports Begin New Season Journey with First Training Session in Gicumbi

GICUMBI, Rwanda – Rayon Sports officially kicked off preparations for the 2026/27 football season on Tuesday, with the club holding its first training session at Gicumbi Stadium in the Northern Province as players and the technical team gathered for a residential pre-season camp. The club is using the camp to build fitness, strengthen team chemistry and prepare for the busy weeks ahead, including the CECAFA Kagame Cup and the new domestic campaign.

The opening training session was attended by almost the entire first-team squad, including the club’s new signings, who joined their teammates as preparations gathered momentum. The coaching staff focused on physical conditioning, tactical drills and evaluating the players after the off-season break.

Only the club’s Burundian players were absent from the first day of training, as they are still completing their vacation following recent national team commitments. They are expected to report to camp in the coming days and join the rest of the squad before the intensive phase of pre-season begins.

The mood in the camp was positive, with players eager to begin a new chapter after the club’s extensive rebuilding process. The technical team emphasized discipline, hard work and unity as key ingredients in achieving the club’s objectives for the upcoming season.

Rayon Sports supporters will be hoping the Gicumbi training camp lays a strong foundation for a successful campaign, with the Blues aiming to challenge for major trophies both domestically and in regional competitions.

The club is expected to remain in Gicumbi for several days, where the players will undergo intensive daily training sessions and tactical preparations before returning to Kigali for the next phase of pre-season activities.
