Amavubi’s Planned Friendly Matches in Morocco Cancelled, Team Moves Training Camp to Egypt

The Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA) has confirmed that the Rwanda National Football Team, Amavubi, will no longer play the international friendly matches that had been scheduled to take place in Marrakech, Morocco, during the June 2026 FIFA international break.

According to an official statement released by FERWAFA, the cancellation follows a notification from Moroccan football authorities indicating that the matches could not be approved due to security concerns. The decision came after part of the Rwandan delegation had already traveled to Marrakech on June 1.
Despite the unexpected setback, FERWAFA emphasized that preparations for the upcoming AFCON 2027 qualification campaign remain unaffected. The federation has swiftly adjusted its plans, relocating the national team’s training camp to Cairo, Egypt, where players and technical staff will continue their preparations from June 4 to June 11.
The June FIFA window was expected to provide valuable match practice and an opportunity for head coach and his technical team to assess players ahead of the crucial AFCON 2027 qualifiers. Although the friendly matches will not take place, the camp in Egypt will allow the squad to maintain fitness levels, strengthen team chemistry, and continue tactical preparations.
FERWAFA reiterated its commitment to ensuring the best possible environment for the national team’s development and thanked its partners and supporters for their continued backing during this important preparation period.
The federation is expected to provide further updates regarding any alternative arrangements or future friendly matches as Amavubi continue their journey towards qualifying for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
