EAST AFRICAN & CENTRAL AFRICAN LEAGUES GOAL COMPARISON: RWANDA LEADS THE WAY, Tanzania’s Season Nears the Finish Line ⚽️🔥

The 2025/26 football season has highlighted an intriguing trend across East and Central Africa, with the Rwanda Premier League emerging as the highest-scoring competition among several of the region’s leading domestic leagues.

Statistics from the ongoing season show that clubs in Rwanda’s top flight have combined to score 633 goals in 299 matches, resulting in an average of 2.12 goals per game. Of those goals, 335 have been scored by home teams, while 298 have come from away sides, with a goal being scored every 42.5 minutes on average.

The figures place the Rwanda Premier League slightly ahead of the Uganda Premier League, where teams scored 502 goals in 240 matches during the 2025/26 campaign, averaging 2.09 goals per game.

The DR Congo Illicocash Ligue 1 also records an average of 2.09 goals per match. However, due to its multi-group competition format, direct comparisons in terms of total goals are more difficult.

Meanwhile, the Tanzania NBC Premier League has maintained an average of around 2.0 goals per game in recent seasons, with the league’s top clubs typically scoring between 50 and 70 goals over a campaign.

Regional Goals Per Match Ranking

  1. 🇷🇼 Rwanda Premier League – 2.12 goals per match
  2. 🇺🇬 Uganda Premier League – 2.09 goals per match
  3. 🇨🇩 DR Congo Illicocash Ligue 1 – 2.09 goals per match
  4. 🇹🇿 Tanzania NBC Premier League – Approximately 2.0 goals per match

However, the comparison comes with an important caveat. The Tanzania NBC Premier League season is not yet complete, with approximately five matchdays remaining. As a result, its current scoring average could still improve before the campaign concludes.

While Rwanda currently sits at the top of the regional scoring chart, the final standings in this statistical battle remain subject to change should Tanzania’s remaining fixtures produce a higher scoring rate.

For now, the Rwanda Premier League holds the advantage with 2.12 goals per match, but the race for the region’s most entertaining and attack-minded league is not officially over
