Diagne, the former captain of the Blue and White side, was one of three players who departed from Kigali International Airport in the early hours of Wednesday, June 10, 2026. He traveled alongside Ben Aziz Dao and Joachim Vigninou after reports emerged that the club had decided not to renew their contracts for next season.
Speaking to InyaRwanda before boarding his flight, Diagne expressed optimism about the possibility of returning to the club, saying that discussions have not completely ended.
He said:
“I don’t think there is any problem. As football players, our focus should be on what happens on the pitch. The rest is being handled by my representative and the club officials. I believe they are still in discussions.”
The defender, who delivered solid performances during his time with the club, explained that his season has come to an end and that he is heading home to rest while waiting to see what happens next.
He added:
“For me as a player, the season is over. I have to return to my country and rest well. The rest is in God’s hands—whether I come back or not.”
Diagne also commented on the changes taking place at the club, noting that such transitions happen in all major teams. He encouraged fans to support the new leadership, believing it could bring positive results.
He said:
“Rayon Sports has changed its management. I think the new leadership can bring good things, if God wills it.”
He concluded by thanking the fans for the incredible support he received during his two years at the club and offered them a message of encouragement:
“I thank the people and the supporters for everything they have done for us. I don’t have enough words to express my gratitude. My advice is simple: never abandon your club. Always stand behind your team in every situation.”
