Rwanda’s U18 and U20 teams cruise to semi-finals with perfect group records

On this Wednesday in Addis Ababa, the group-stage matches of the IHF Trophy Zone 5 for the under-18 and under-20 categories concluded, with Rwanda’s teams finishing top of their groups.
In the under-18 category, after defeating Tanzania and Djibouti, Rwanda wrapped up the group stage with a win over Kenya this Wednesday.
It was a tough match, with the first half ending in Kenya’s favor at 27-22. At the start of the second half, Kenya extended their lead to eight goals (30-22). However, Rwanda’s youngsters mounted an impressive comeback, gradually closing the gap and eventually securing a dramatic 49-48 victory.
Rwanda is now set to face Uganda in the semifinals, while Kenya will take on Burundi.
In the under-20 category, Rwanda concluded the group stage with a victory over hosts Ethiopia, as the tournament is being held in Addis Ababa.
Rwanda dominated the first half, going into the break with an 18-12 lead.
In the second half, boosted by strong home support, Ethiopia fought back to level the score and even took a two-goal lead over Rwanda. However, the Rwandan side responded strongly, regained control, and went on to win 39-35.
In the semifinals, Rwanda will face Kenya, while Ethiopia will play Uganda.
