Rayon Sports Carry Rwanda’s Hopes Into the CECAFA Semi-Finals While APR FC Exit in Shame

Rayon Sports have kept Rwanda’s hopes alive in the 2026 CECAFA Kagame Cup after securing qualification for the semi-finals following an impressive group-stage campaign. The Blues progressed after overcoming strong opposition, including Sudanese giants Al Hilal, and finished among the tournament’s top performers.
While Rayon Sports continue their quest for regional glory, it was a completely different story for APR FC. Despite entering the competition as one of the favourites and defending Rwanda’s reputation, APR failed to advance beyond the group stage after a disappointing campaign that saw them eliminated before the knockout rounds.
The contrast between Rwanda’s two biggest clubs has been striking. Rayon Sports displayed resilience, discipline, and consistency to earn a place among the final four, while APR struggled to produce the performances needed to stay in contention.
With APR’s journey over, all eyes now turn to Rayon Sports as they carry the nation’s hopes into the semi-finals, aiming to bring the CECAFA Kagame Cup trophy back to Rwanda.
