“From Kigali to Pretoria: The Roar of the RSSB Tigers Begins”

The RSSB Tigers Basketball Club have officially begun their campaign in the Basketball Africa League (BAL) 2026 season, where they are proudly representing Rwanda on the continental stage.

This participation comes after APR BBC, who had initially qualified, withdrew from the competition. As a result, Rwanda’s basketball federation selected RSSB Tigers to take their place, giving the club a major opportunity to compete among Africa’s top teams.

The RSSB Tigers formerly known as Tigers Basketball Club have made headlines across the continent by securing their debut in the Basketball Africa League (BAL) 2026. In a surprising turn of events, the Tigers were designated by the Rwanda Basketball Federation (FERWABA) to represent Rwanda after the national champions, APR BBC, withdrew from the competition. This last-minute substitution has placed the Tigers in the spotlight, as they carry the high expectations of a nation that has consistently reached the BAL podium in previous years.

The team has traveled to Pretoria, South Africa, to compete in the Kalahari Conference, which is scheduled to take place at the SunBet Arena from March 27 to April 5, 2026. Representing Rwanda on this prestigious stage, the Tigers face a formidable group of opponents, including the host team Johannesburg Giants, Morocco’s FUS Rabat, and the 2024 champions Petro de Luanda. Despite the short notice, the club enters the tournament with significant momentum, having recently clinched both the 2025 Rwanda Cup and the 2026 Super Cup, proving they are more than ready for continental battle.

To bolster their chances in South Africa, the RSSB Tigers have significantly strengthened their technical bench and roster. They are led by the experienced coach Henry Mwinuka and have recently added James Maye Jr. formerly of APR to their coaching staff to provide additional tactical depth. The squad is a blend of hungry local talent and strategic international additions, all focused on a singular goal: finishing among the top four in their conference to advance to the BAL Playoffs and Finals, which will be held on their home turf at the BK Arena in Kigali this May.

The RSSB Tigers Basketball Club are expected to travel on Tuesday to South Africa as they prepare for their participation in the Basketball Africa League (BAL) 2026 season. The team will head to Pretoria, where the Kalahari Conference games are set to begin on Friday, March 27, 2026.
