FERWAFA-banned referee Nsengiyumva Jean Paul apologizes after assaulting Mbonyamahoro Serieux

Nsengiyumva Jean Paul, who was suspended by FERWAFA for one year after kicking Mbonyamahoro Serieux in the groin, has issued an apology.

The incident happened during Matchday 29 of the league on May 3, 2026, at Stade Kamena, where Mukura Victory Sports was hosting Rutsiro FC.

The referee awarded a penalty to Rutsiro FC, and when Serieux approached him to question the decision, he suddenly kicked him in the groin.

After reviewing the incident carefully, FERWAFA suspended the referee for 12 months from all football-related activities.

Nsengiyumva Jean Paul has since written a letter of apology.

He said:

“I, Nsengiyumva Jean Paul, a football referee in Rwanda, write this letter to apologize for the unacceptable behavior I displayed during the Matchday 29 game between Mukura Victory Sports and Rutsiro FC on May 3, 2026, where I committed a shameful act during that match.”

“First, I sincerely apologize to Mbonyamahoro Serieux of Mukura Victory Sports, because it was completely inappropriate for a referee to behave in such a manner. I also apologize to Mukura VS, FERWAFA, BK Pro League, and the referee governing body because my conduct reflected badly on all of them.”

He continued by expressing regret and admitting that his actions were wrong.

“What happened was a serious mistake that occurred unexpectedly, and I fully admit that I was wrong. I deeply regret what I did and assure everyone that it will never happen again. I am ready to take the necessary steps to correct myself.”

“I once again apologize for the negative consequences caused by this act, and I promise that it will not happen again. I am committed to following the laws of the game, respecting players, and displaying the good conduct expected of a true referee.”
