RSSB Tigers Face Tough BAL Test in South Africa

RSSB Tigers Basketball Club is set to fly to South Africa this weekend ahead of their participation in the Basketball Africa League 2026, marking a significant moment for the club on the continental stage.

The team will be guided by a strong and experienced technical bench led by Henry Mwinuka. He will be assisted by James Maye Jr., head coach of APR Basketball Club, and former national team star Kenny Gasana. This trio is expected to bring tactical discipline, leadership, and valuable experience to the squad.

RSSB Tigers earned their place in the competition after replacing APR, the reigning local league champions, who confirmed they will not take part in this year’s BAL season. The opportunity offers the RSSB-sponsored side a platform to compete against Africa’s elite teams and showcase their potential.

The club will compete in the Kalahari Conference, scheduled to take place at the SunBet Arena in Pretoria from March 27 to April 5.

In this conference, RSSB Tigers face a tough group that includes Petro de Luanda (Angola), Johannesburg Giants (South Africa), Nairobi City Thunder (Kenya), Al Ahly Benghazi (Libya), and Dar City (Tanzania). This group presents a major test, especially against experienced sides known for their strength and competitive pedigree.

Expectations for RSSB Tigers will focus on strong defensive organization, effective ball movement, and the ability to handle pressure in high-intensity matches. The presence of experienced coaches like Mwinuka and Maye Jr. is expected to improve tactical awareness and game management, while Gasana’s leadership adds motivation and guidance to the players.
